Bishop Tracy S. Malone will appoint Pastor Darla Schnegg as interim director of the Epworth Center (Southern Hills District), effective July 1. While guiding the ministries of the Epworth Center, located in Bethesda, she will also serve as part-time pastor of Jerusalem UMC. Schnegg will succeed Deaconess Sherri Buehl, who is moving with her husband, Ted, to his next pastoral appointment in the Firelands District.
“Darla brings a love for the Lord and passion for missions! Her personal connection to The United Methodist Church in southeast Ohio helps to make this a smooth transition. She has skills in administration and in teaming up with leaders from various denominations, experience as an LPN and EMT, and a variety of other gifts,” said the Rev. Gail Angel, superintendent of the Southern Hills District.
The Epworth Center has felt like holy ground for Schnegg since she went there on an Emmaus Walk years ago. More recently, volunteering at Epworth Center with the Project Manna choice food pantry has led to her membership on the Board.
The mission of the Epworth Center, located in historic Epworth Park, is to “seek to extend the love and grace of Jesus Christ – in meeting physical, emotional, and spiritual needs; no matter what season of life.”
“The Epworth Center now offers varieties of ways to join with neighbors and engage the Bridges Out of Poverty training offered by Sherri Buehl,” Angel said. “We anticipate that Darla Schnegg will build on this and bring new gifts and guidance to the ministries of the Epworth Center.”
Schnegg and her husband, Doug, live in Hannibal, near the Ohio River.
