Social Principals 2020

To Participate in Reviewing the 2020 Draft Social Principles
East Ohio Conference’s Board of Church and Society invites all members of the Conference to provide comment on the newest revision of the Social Principles. First articulated over a hundred years ago and endorsed by a wide body of religious denominations, this historic document has been regularly revised to reflect new events and changing circumstances. Still, these statements reflect Wesleyan concepts that translate Christian precepts to the realities of our resources, relationships, and social practices in our local communities and wider world today.  Please visit Social Principles 2020 to learn more.

For individuals to add their perspective and voice to this newest edition, you can access the draft document online here.  After reflecting and prayerfully considering the draft document, you can respond from your home on your own time by visiting Social Principles 2020, scrolling to the bottom of the page, and providing your feedback.

Churches are also welcome and encouraged to host conversations and provide feedback as well.  A conversation guide for Sunday School classes or other gatherings can be found here.  Individuals can then provide feedback using the link above, or group feedback can be submitted to the General Board of Church and Society through the East Ohio Director of Multicultural Vitality at Vitality@eocumc.com.

The East Ohio Conference Board of Church and Society will be hosting a conversation on September 15th.  To receive an invitation and details, please contact Vitality@eocumc.com.

The document and its online review will be available until August 31. Members of the East Ohio Board of Church and Society thank you for your role in supporting this important work.

Message in the Movies

Message in the Movies banner (colorful film strip

Sorry to Bother You is a sloppy and scattershot movie in many ways and its uneven production values (due, I am sure, to a limited budget) can be occasionally frustrating, but the commitment of the entire cast to this project elicits laughter and shocks in equal measure during its 105-minute rollercoaster ride. This is one of the best films that I’ve seen this year, but if you are not up to counterculture independent films in general, this is not the movie that’s going to win you over. Read full review
