Human Relations Day is January 20
Human Relations Day is one of six Special Sundays in The United Methodist Church. On the Sunday before the national observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, our denomination recognizes the right of all of God’s children to realize their potential as human beings in relationship with one another.
The special offering collected on Human Relations Day will benefit neighborhood ministries through Community Developers, and community advocacy through United Methodist Voluntary Services – both related to the General Board of Global Ministries. It also will be used to help at-risk teens through the Youth Offender Rehabilitation Program, a ministry of the General Board of Church and Society.

The Media Center has many resources available for Lent. Here are just a few:
- 24 Hours That Changed the World visits the sites where earth-shaking events took place. We walk where Jesus walked and see what he may have seen, along the road that led to the pain and triumph of the cross.
- The God We Can Know; Exploring the ‘I Am’ Sayings of Jesus allows you to travel and actually see the places where Jesus stood while disclosing his true identity, and in what context he spoke each “I Am.”
- The Easter Experience brings the passion and resurrection of Jesus to life through dramatic storytelling and challenging teaching.
- Renegade Gospel; The Rebel Jesus presents Jesus and his challenging message to inspire us during Lent, Easter, and through the year.
- Who Is This Man? reveals how Jesus and Christianity came to make an inescapable influence on our world, and how you as a Christian can make an inescapable influence too.
Message in the Movies
Mary Poppins Returns
Mary Poppins Returns was promoted as a new movie and not a remake, with a great musical director and an A-List cast assembled (including Hamilton’s Miranda in his first major film role). This time, instead of flying into London to teach Jane and Michael Banks practical manners (while also saving Mr. George Banks), Mary (Blunt) arrives at the home of the adult Michael Banks (Ben Whishaw) – now a recent widower with three children – assisted by the adult Jane (Emily Mortimer).
