Pastor Appreciation Month
Celebrate your pastor’s ministry, presence, and sacrificial dedication to the Gospel of Jesus Christ during Pastor Appreciation Month.
Pastors and their families experience the pressures of unrealistic expectations that can be placed upon them. Feeling that they are expected to be perfect, always have to have the answer, be available 24/7, and never be discouraged can lead to feeling overwhelmed.
In his latest newsletter message to the Firelands District, Superintendent the Rev. Doug Lewis asks congregations to “encourage your pastor to spend the appropriate amount of time caring for her/his own walk with Christ. Your pastor is incapable of leading you where she/he does not go.”
Take a moment this month to say “thank you” to your pastor and to encourage their health and well-being.

Decency~Respect~Dignity: Talking Points and Podcast
The recent Supreme Court confirmation hearing was just one more thing that separates our country. In an effort to show our young people that even if we disagree on issues, we can find common ground somewhere and walk away from discussions agreeing to disagree, still respecting and speaking to one another. This particular discussion is not political. No matter which side of the aisle you find yourself, the testimonies hit on topics that were relevant in 1982 and are still relevant for our teens today. Find talking points, resources and the Practically Honest podcast.

A reminder from your Conference Finance Team
Please take time to review your monthly remittance statement each month. We are now in the final quarter of the 2018. We want to ensure all apportionment payments are included in the current year so that each church gets the benefit of having achieved 100% of its apportionment commitment. In keeping with the notice in the Annual Conference Journal, final payment of the 2018 apportionment year needs to be received at our lockbox on or before January 4, 2019. Checks received in our lockbox after January 4, 2019, regardless of the postmark date on the envelope, will be counted as having been received in 2019.

Message in the Movies
Lie Itself
After spending two hours in a theater with the cast of characters of Life Itself, I found myself in a bit of a quandary. The acting is excellent overall, … the movie has some wise things to say, … is overly clever in its construction, but by its conclusion I found its message rather banal, easily paraphrased by Dorothy Fields in her song lyrics from 1936: “I pick myself up, dust myself off, and start all over again.” Read full review and watch movie trailer
