August 28, 2013 – “What happened to the church?” A few people asked that question as they approached the locked doors of Cambridge Christ United Methodist Church (Southern Hills District) on Sunday, August 25. Signs on the doors directed worshippers that day to the Cambridge City Park. There the large pavilion and the city swimming pool were reserved for our use.
The town had been invited through the local TV station and several radio spots. We promised an exciting time at our “Celebration of Faith.” The pavilion filled with 360 people for lunch, and most of them stayed for the worship service that followed.
The church choir and praise team led us into God`s presence. Two participants from our Celebrate Recovery Ministry gave testimonials, and my message came from 2 Chronicles 7:14. The children’s service was held at the same time as adult worship. We had church!
Worship was followed by Minute to Win It games, based on the popular television game show. After a “sing-spiration,” we moved to the city pool, where 23 people were baptized.
The church left the building. God met us in the park and as a result, 17 souls came to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ! There was a little bit of heaven in the park, where everyone was blessed beyond measure.
